On Friday the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Zamfara showed the public and newsmen the list of Governorship and state of Assembly candidates of various parties the names of the on from the APC were missing. This means APC will not contest the 2019 election in the state apart from the one that concerns the Federal.
Other political parties have their names are written and their candidate all set for the 2019 coming election. The parties are the main opposition party, the PDP and others include another popular party APGA, also SDP fielded their candidates too, others are NCP, GPN, PRP, NRM etc.
Hajiya Amina Zakari an official in charge of the state and some other Northern state said: “I think, it has been said several times that the APC didn’t have candidates in the state, so we have not received their candidates’’
“This issue is in court and if the court asks us to go ahead and receive their list, we will certainly receive their names.’’
“Therefore, since the date for the submission of candidates has been passed, we shouldn’t go on that now; we should concentrate on what will be beneficial to the communities which are voter register, claims, objections and verification,”.
Zakari said she came to the state to monitor INEC activities which include checking all the candidates and voter’s register. She said:
“The reason for the exercise is for eligible persons to check their names and confirm if they are on the list or if there is any mistake in the names or misspelt”.
“It is important for the politicians to look at the register critically and confirm to have a credible list for the election.”
She used the medium to encourage voters to collect their Permanent Voters’ Cards at the centres across the three states, she urges others to give enlightenment to those who have not collected theirs.
