Salah retains CAF African Footballer of the Year 2018

Liverpool forward, Mohamed Salah has been crowned the African Footballer of the Year for the second year running.

Salah met competition from fellow Liverpool teammate Sadio Mane and Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The awards were hosted in the capital city of Senegal, Dakar on Tuesday night.

Salah’s award put him among those who won the African footballer of the year awards back to back. The likes of El Hadji Diouf, Samuel Eto’o, Yaya Toure, won the award back to back.

South African Thembi Kgatlana was crowned the best women’s player in Africa for 2018 in the women’s category. She halted Nigerians dominance of the awards by beating Nigerian duo of Asisat Oshoala and Francisca Ordega.

Thembi Kgatlana and her country secured a ticket to the World cup when they finished as runners-up at the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations in Ghana.

However, the Super Falcons were not left out of receiving an award as they were voted as the Best National Women Team for the Year.

South Africa’s Desiree Ellis defeated Super Falcons Coach Thomas Dennerby to win the African Women’s Coach of the Year 2018.

For the Men’s Coach of the Year 2018, Morocco coach Herve Renard that was voted as the continent’s best coach and Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr was not in the final shortlist.

Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi could not get his hands to the young player of the year award as Borussia Dortmund and Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi beat him to it.
