As Nigerians are going to the polls today to elect a new president and their representatives at the National Assembly, multiple explosions were heard in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital in Northeast Nigeria on Saturday morning.
Panic has enveloped the capital city of Maiduguri, Borno state, following the invasion of some areas of the city by suspected Boko Haram terrorists with explosives.
At least from 5:15 am to the time of filing this reports more than 8 loud explosions were heard from Polo and Damboa- Molai areas of the capital city which were followed by the sound of artillery from the military.
While this is occurring when residents are getting ready to move out for the presidential and National Assembly election, the earthshaking explosions might keep some residents indoors until the situation calms.
Nigerian Air Force fighter jet is also hovering the air, an indication that the Military is repelling the terrorist’s invasion.
The government had promised the electorate that security apparatus has been put in place to ensure their safety.
