Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola will be leaving office on Monday as he has completed his tenure as Governor. In his goodbye remark, he mentioned that he did not get salaries throughout his eight years in office.
Aregbesola was answering questions from an interview on a programme ‘Ogbeni Till Day Break’.
Aregbesola said he was ok with the feeding allowance and the housing allowance he receives and felt there was no need for him to demand salaries.
The Governor also surprised the public by saying that he has no bank account where he keeps money whether in Nigeria or in other part of the World.
” I have not collected salaries since I became the governor of the state’’.
“The state feeds me, fuels my car and provides me accommodation. With all these, I don’t need money.
” I have no money and bank account anywhere. ” I have no house except the one I built before I became the governor.
“Anyone can go out there to investigate if I have a bank account”.
Aregbesola said he would leave the Government House on Monday, November 19 instead of the handover date of November 27 giving way for Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola who is the governor-elect to renovated the office.
He when on to say: “If you give me another four years to rule again, I will still do what I did before and I will not do anything differently”.
“l had been in politics since my secondary school days. I have been an absentee husband for many years because of politics but for now, I want to be with my wife”.
Aregbesola, however, described the Governor-elect as a silent achiever and a go-getter, who would build on his legacies. ” Oyetola is not radical like me but he is a silent achiever.
” He contributed immensely to the success of my administration and I know he will do well in office”.
