2019: Okorocha, Nnamani, Nwobodo, ministers, absent at the Buhari campaign meeting in Enugu

2019: Okorocha, Nnamani, Nwobodo, ministers, absent at the Buhari campaign meeting in Enugu

The Southeast campaign of President Muhammadu Buhari is starting on a slow note as the meeting he organised through the Director of Buhari Campaign Council, South East. Miss Sharon Ikeazor saw major figures of the APC in the region absent.

The only Governor under the platform of the APC was absent from the meeting of the zonal campaign council in Enugu. Others who did not attend are Ken Nnamani a former Senate President, Chief Jim Nwobodo, former Anambra State Governor and four Ministers from the South East, Chris Ngige Minister of Labour, Geoffrey Onyeama Foreign Affairs Minister, Anthony Anwuka Education/State Minister and Okechukwu Enelama Minister for Trade and Investment.

The only Minister that attended the meeting was Ogbonnaya Onu, the Minister of Science and Technology.

While the other popular figures that attended are Senators, Benjamin Uwajumogu and Andy Uba, the National Vice Chairman, South East, Emma Eneukwu, National Auditor George Muoghalu, Osita Okechukwu, Hope Uzodimma, Uche Ogar and Emeka Wogu.

Because of the absence of the key figures at the meeting, the meeting was delayed for several hours. The meeting was to start by 10 am but was moved to 1 pm and it started despite the key absentees.

Miss Ikeazor said when answering questions on why some notable figure was absent. She said that the likes of Governor Okorocha have representatives that would report back to him. She further added that the work in Government will not be stopped because of politics.

Her statement reads: “You noticed that not all Ministers are here. Governance cannot ground to a halt because of politics.”

“We have less than 40 days to the presidential election. There has to be a targeted approach. That is why I have called the meeting today. It’s a strategy meeting. So, we strategized and harmonised our strategies in the five Eastern States for us to be able to deliver Minister President and make a significant change from past elections we have always done

“And that targeted approach is a door to door campaign, a group to group campaign. Going into motor parks, markets, talking to our people one on one. This is no time for rallies.

“We need to engage the populace, come down to their level and talk to them. And we can achieve that. That is why you saw the large turnout. Everyone from each of the five South Eastern states-candidates, party members, National Working Committee members, zonal leaders, our elders in the party, down to the National Assembly, stakeholders-are strategizing for Buhari to win.”
